Received: 14-12-10 Accepted: 06-04-11 Abstract Intestinal intussusception in adults occurs infrequently. In this study we describe two cases of acute surgical events characterized by abdominal pain, masses and obstructive symptoms. One of these cases occurred in an 18 year old woman with jejuno-jejunal intussusceptions due to a hamartomatous polyp. The other case was a 40 year woman with a colo-colonic intussusception due to a submucosal lipoma in the descending colon.

Intestinal intussusception is a common problem in the children, but in adults, it's very unusual. It's responsible for 1-2% of the intestinal obstruction in adults. Patients commonly presents with nonspecific signs and symptoms similar to a bowel obstruction....

Intussusceptions in adults are a rare entity, representing only 1% of all bowel obstructions and 5% of all intussusceptions [1, 2]. In children, intussusception is usually idiopathic and benign, with up to 30% of patients coinciding with gastroenteritis [3]. Non-operative reduction using air or contrast enemas is sufficient to treat intussusception in 80% of pediatric patients. In adults howeve...
